Flyers has a slightly closer fit than our regular approach shoes and has an extended rock-shoe-like lace closure for a really precise fit and great control. The upper is made from premium quality split leather and has a generous protective rubber rand which also adds grip when foot jamming. For Flyers we developed a special hard wearing version of our famous rock shoe rubber which we call Zenith Dura®.
This rubber has a remarkable combination of high grip and whilst retaining great durability. Unlike lesser approach shoes Boreal Flyers has a board lasted construction (like a high end trekking boot) and so has a full length midsole for excellent underfoot support on rough ground. The underfoot cushioning layer is placed above the midsole with the rubber outsole mounted underneath. This construction massively reduces the amount of edge deflection around the forefoot, a huge advantage when climbing.
